Mr Neugel welcomes the persons present with a detailed entrance:
The number of entries for the 100 years Anniversary Show on Saturday had reached 270 Great Danes . For the EuDDC-Show on Sunday there are 237 Great Danes entered. There are exhibitors of 19 European Countries.
The Judges Symposium will begin on August 17, at 1 p.m. on the show venue, same place as the present meeting, while the delegates meeting will start at 3 p.m.. „ Best in Show“ will be judged inside the Exhibition Hall on Saturday evening and a diner will follow.
The magazine „Dog Dog“ is available for all, free of charge, and also the magazine „Healthy Great Dane“ while a CD may be purchased.
The EuDDC website is not accessible and the warning to employ a lawyer did not help. There has not been any support by the Secretary’s Office. A well functioning Secretary’s Office is important, as there isn’t any committee.
The outcome with the questionaire is indicating that the majority wants to maintain the EuDDC in its present form and it is wanted to obtain as much information as possible by the commissions.
Agenda
Mr.Fischbach continues and welcomes the participants:
„friendship does not indicate we speak the same language“
EuDDC-conformation form:
Mr. Martin was not satisfied with the interpreter in Brussels. Spain and Switzerland already signaled their agreement to the conformation form, while there isn’t any reply yet from The Netherlands.
page 1 is updated and needs no modification.
It is not deemed necessary to set for a minimum score as a tolerance for the breed conformation controllers need to remain.
Explanation to the study: the frequency of both the roll-lid and the macroblepharon needs to be studied. It concerns the congenital split of the lids. This anomaly occurs due to the standard requirements at different pure breeds. In case of the macroblepharon it effects the lower eyelid – that becomes flaccid. Depending on the status it may lead to continuous inflammation.
Mr.Neugel adds that such eyes also relate to a bad health status and he expresses that a more strict assessment was desireable.
Mr Fischbach: look for the size.
page 2 and 3: France demands various modifications and they are discussed item per item and the wording is very much precised in order to set the scores.
e.g. item 1)
relation of height to length: too short (0) short (1) very long (2) long (3) slightly longer (4)
almost quadratic (5)
to item 19) facial muscles : too strong (1) accentuated (2) indicative (5)
to item 25) eye-colour: at blue the description bluish-grey is added.
to item 39) mamma-enlargement (breast) to be deleted
to item 40)rib cage: flat(1), too round = ton-like (2) sufficient (3) well formed (5)
and followed until point 77.
The common project “EuDDC confirmation form” is now settled.
Those changes are to be presented to the breed conformation control in Germany soon.
The test for temperament is to be done before the conformation. France also does a temperament test.
Mr Fischbach: the use of the words Entropium / Ektropium need extra care in case the judge
is not a veterinary.
Teeth: irregularity of 1 tooth is tolerated. France tolerates the missing P 1 in the upper jaw, except it is a EuDDC conformation.
Mr Martin explains in relation to the harlequin breeding what he understands is „too much grey“, and that is when more than 1/3 of the coat is grey.
Mr Neugel presents the magazine „Healthy Great Dane“ and recites from 2 chapters. The magazine will be presented to each delegate and furthermore is on sale.
Mr. Fischbach: We are not to talk our Great Danes into diseases.
Mr Neugel asks Mr Fischbach about the permitted inbreeding coeffiency grade in Germany.
Mr.Fischbach :Inbreeding coefficiency grade /calculation on loss on ancestry = 6,25
Mr Neugel: We may be able to regain the headtype after 3 generations but not the health.
The Merle:
Mr Neugel: there is a european petition. There are already more than 3000 signatures – faulty colour yes – but no longer banned for breeding.
Ms.Völzer, question to Mr Martin: is it confirmed that by using the merle the pigmentation ( of eyes and/or nose ) is getting darker ?
Mr Martin: Yes this seems to be so.
Question from Ms Baksyte to France: Did you breed merle to merle yet?
Mr Martin.: No
Mr Neugel: eventually we would obtain nicer harlequin colour
Mr Völxen: in case the merle studies in the US were already finished there was more
knowledge on this issue.
Mr Fischbach: the German Canine Socitey –VDH- is presently studying the issue of multicolour breeding and that would indicate only one CACIB. The Northern countries do cross all colours and the KyDD does the same.
Ms.van der Vijvver: The Dutch Raad van Beheer permits all cross colour breedings.
Mr Fischbach: I sent a letter May 14, 2006 to Ms. Wiegand (VDH Committee for the Standard) concerning in-colour-breeding – in 3 independant colours. We need a clear understanding in our own country.
Ms. Völzer: How about the cardiological checks in Germany ?
Mr Fischbach: this is compulsory for dogs that are recommended for breeding.
The next Council meeting will take place in March 2008 in Luxemburg
