Mr Neugel welcomes the persons present and informs on the remarkable number of entries for both shows. He further adds that after then main ring on Saturday ther will be a festive evening on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Swiss GDC.

He introduces himself and asks all person to do the same.

He addresses to the present judges and criticizes that the judges do not always respect the standard. The FCI commission had requested for all judges to pay special attention for :

Health
Vitality

And not only for colour, physical parameters, movement, angulations, and set of eyes. He lists a few intolerable faults.
In case a judge does not observe them how can the (partially young breeders ) see them ? Dogs with an eye surgery do not belong onto a showground and ratings and placements have to be made by the movement.

At the issue of temperament he outlines that it is closely linked to vitality. Great Danes must not be shy, “ we have to look for self confident and vitals dogs”.

Judges own bred dogs: Yes – judges are allowed to handle dogs of their own breeding, but none of other breeders. This FCI rule will only be invalid in case a judge retires from his appointment to judge at all.

Project Healthy Dane 07

W o r k s h o p

1) Mr Neugel passes a foto of a male harlequin Dane to all judges present
and demands individual assessment. The results are:

10 x rating “Excellent” –no CAC-
7 x rating „Very Good“

Belgium – Mr Orenbuch: in case an excellent is given the CAC has to be given too.

Switzerland – Mr Neugel : in case there is no CACIB attribution the CAC may be awarded.

Mr Neugel reads all assessment out to the audience and very differentiated results are obtained at assessing the same exhibit. Some even observe a good movement at the foto.

Mr Neugel: the conclusion is that this exhibit would have obtained many CAC’s and
hence belongs into the Champion Class.

2) workshop divided into groups

The judges are divided into 3 groups and receive 3 themes:

I ) – recommendations how to judge according to the Standard

II ) - how can a judge influence the betterment of the breeds health ?

III ) - same as I )

The groups each work out as follows:

Group 1)
-judges seminars in regular intervals by country, in case a country is too small several countries should connect each other
-Standard as short as possible, add precise photographic material
-at EuDDC-level offer a chance for judges to participate at seminars
-at seminars offer videos to observe movements and add commentaries.
-start a judges commission

Group 2)
-priority to be set fort he movement. With an incorrect movement the morphology is incorrect too.
-set of eyes – not too open.
-coat and skin parameters
-Elbows, inflammation of joints
-teeth: correct set of teeth. Size of teeth, tartar at teeth
-ears, clean, no infections,
-nails, too long may influence the stacking
-temperament , self confident and calm,

Group 3)
-at EuDDC a judges seminar each year
-more dialog among the judges with respect to interpretation of the Standard
-workshops on movement with practical examples
-realistic studies of the Standard by the judges on live exhibits
-more communication among the judges
-seminars to be organized, judges symposium in Germany to be accessible for all European judges – as Germany is the country of origin for the breed.
-prepare for a photographic Standard and recommendation on its interpretations.

Mr Neugel expresses gratitude fort he judges engagements and efforts and observes: „it is important for our meetings, that we communicate with each other“.

to I) Mr Fischbach welcomes more judges meetings but refers also to financial He presents the interim photographic Standard on which France is presently working.

Mr Neugel refers to the fact that the present meeting is he third of its kind and the 2-3 hours of it do already produce a positive prospect. Regrettably there are not enough judges present, even though it is held once a year it offers the chance to assess many exhibits – like this year.
to II ) Health : Ms Völzer – the movement has a very important role.

Mr Neugel adds, that the demands of the FCI should be met and usually there are only nice exhibits to be seen, but health is non related to the rating „Excellent“.

to III ) Ms. van der Vijver – Group 3 did conclude almost the same results as group 1) Leitsätze wie die Gruppe 1) gefasst,

Mr Gügel: „where are no judges seminars“ ?

reply Ms van der Vijver:- in The Netherlands
.
Mr.Orenbuch - once a year is insufficient.

Mr Gügel: is there an exchange of information among the judges ?

Ms Völzer and Mr Orenbuch: „that was a good idea.“

Mr Orenbuch: „communication is so vital.“

Another guest arrives Mr Gilmer (KyDD) at 2:50 p.m.

Mr. Neugel: will we also have a judges seminar at the EuDDC event 2008 in France ?

Mr. Martin : Yes!

Mr. Neugel : please keep this in mind – what is he issue you want to discuss on ?

Mr. Martin : the Standard in pictures

Ms. Völzer: in 2005 we discussed the head.

Mr. Neugel : in case we debate on the Standard we need to have live dogs, that display some faults, present in 2008

Mr. Neugel ends the meeting by 3:05h p.m.
